Insight: Mindful Consumption
While on a personal break the past week, I realised how hard it is to truly disconnect.
We are in the most chaotic yet brilliant timeline of our lives.
‘Information overload’ is real. We’re bombarded daily with the equivalent of a few years of information. In our email inboxes. Through texts. Through app notifications. Through social media. All of this is in addition to our real-life conversations, our work, and our real lives.
We don’t actually need to consume so much. In our eagerness to ‘stay ahead’, we forget to really live.
“It’s not information overload. It’s filter failure.” - Clay Shirky, American writer
Mindful consumption has helped us in countless ways and is core to our mission here at Project Bibliotherapy.
We curate, not condense. We point you in the direction of the content you’d actually resonate with, based on countless hours of research, lived experience, and insights into what common interests people have.
In our quest to nudge you to read more, read better, we’ve adopted these 3 easy strategies:
Disabling notifications: I usually keep my phone notifications tab empty. I delete apps I don’t use often. I disable push notifications as far as possible. This ensures that reminders go off only for the most important communication.
Unfollowing more: Spring cleaning isn’t just for your house. I often go through our following lists or email subscriptions to edit down and remove content that’s outdated or doesn’t fit in with me as a person anymore.
Using tiny blocks of time: There are so many ways to fit reading in. While waiting for an appointment. During your daily commute. Before bedtime. Look for these blocks of time to fit reading into your schedule. It’ll definitely help you scroll less, read more :)
Update: A new Readers of 42 Experience
We have an announcement coming very soon :)
In the meantime, we’d like to thank each and every one of you that’s been part of our community so far. Lots of exciting stuff coming your way soon!
After officially launching the Readers of 42 in October last year, we’ve been working on making your membership better and adding the right kind of value.

This edition includes:
42 completely new authors from across time
A much more diverse line-up of authors
Exciting new extras and reading activities
We’re super excited to get this edition through to you and to welcome our recent Readers too! Watch this space and our Instagram to know more.
